Confirmation Covenant
As you begin this process of preparing for Confirmation, the parish of St. Mary’s assures you of our prayers and support. We will do all that we can to help you on this journey. We in turn ask you to fulfill, as best you can, the following:
· Jesus calls us to grow in the gift of our faith. Preparing for Confirmation is a two year process, beginning in Grade Five and continuing through Grade Six. Confirmation is celebrated in the fall of Seventh Grade for all those who are prepared. Throughout this process you are expected to be at all the gatherings that are part of the Confirmation process. Some of the Gatherings will be for you and some will be for you and your parents.
· Jesus invites us to enter deeply into the gift of prayer and worship. You are asked to pray each day and to be a part of our Sunday Eucharist. You will be asked to be part of a Communal Reconciliation Service and a Confirmation Retreat.
· Jesus also calls us to a life of service. You are asked to set time aside for the service of others. Your parents are very welcome to help you in whatever service projects you might be involved in during these two years.
· Jesus asks us to share our faith. You will be asked to write a letter to our pastor during the time prior to Confirmation and share with him your journey to Confirmation. This includes your choice for your sponsor, your Confirmation name, and why you have chosen that name, a description of your service to our community and why it is that you want to celebrate the sacrament of Confirmation. In sharing your faith you will also have a conversation with a member of our Pastoral Team or some member of our parish about our life of faith.
· Jesus calls us to always respect one another. You are asked to behave well at all of our gatherings, whether we are in the Auditorium, the Church or in the classrooms. You are also expected to complete whatever assignment(s) you are given to the best of your ability.
With the help of one another we will do our best to be faithful to this Covenant as we journey to the celebration of the sacrament of Confirmation.
